Pumpkin workout
Q: Flyer
PAX: Terps, Treble, Beetlejuice, Pixie, Cajun, Cha Cha, Pearl
When: Friday, November 1 2019
Where: The Anchor, New river church
I signed up to Q this workout shortly after our launch after telling the Site Qs how I wanted to do a pumpkin-weighted workout. My after holiday pumpkin source closed down early so I went off to Walmart and bought 10 pumpkins. The things we do in the name of fitness! 🤪
Glad to see 7 other PAX out this morning in one of our coldest mornings to date especially after an 80 degree Halloween. Hello November. Let’s get to it…
warm up:
2-3 laps around parking lot to get warm
arm circles front and back
cross body and tricep arm stretches
jumping jacks in cadence
cherry pickers IC
Low slow squats IC
quad stretch
Then we played a little musical pumpkins—ran around the circle of pumpkins and when the music stopped you grabbed a pumpkin. They were mostly the same size but a couple smaller.
The Thang:
4 corners pumpkin workout: Everything with the pumpkin. Everything double count.
station 1
10 Double hands push up (on pumpkin though we stopped this short as some of us felt the pumpkins giving!!)
20 twisting lunges
30 Squat press
40 Toe taps (on pumpkin)
Station 2
10 bicep curls
20 side lunges
30 Wood chop
40 Jack o jacks (Like a Smurf jack holding pumpkin)
Station 3
10 uneven push ups
20 overhead tricep dips
30 Dead lifts
40 High knees
Station 4
10 bridges
20 Russian twists
30 Straight arm (holding pumpkin down) sumo squats
Run a lap with pumpkin
2nd round: no pumpkin
The fast girls read the directions as one lap with pumpkin and one lap without so that’s what we did. But 2nd round of 4 corners you drop the weight and do with no pumpkin.
COT went something like this:
I was thinking about a theme and today being November 1st which starts for a lot of us into crazy stressful and yes, fun, holiday season. So what kind of stress or weight are we carrying around that is unwarranted… then I read this quote, bible verse and story.
Sometimes you don’t realize the weight of something you’ve been carrying until you feel the weight of its release.
First Corinthians 9:24 “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it."
Many years ago when I was on the track team in high school, I learned a valuable lesson. I was leading the race, but when I looked back, I saw another runner gaining on me. I nearly stumbled by looking back and it took my momentum away…and yes, I lost the race. Just as the Apostle Paul says we’re like runners in a race and only one receives a prize at the event, we must run as if we deeply desire to “obtain it," but we can’t be looking back…we must learn to let go of what’s behind us.
Again not my story but I thought a good reminder to keep our eyes forward and don’t let the weight of the past, or other unnecessary stress, keep us from finishing our race at the front.
Also if anyone needs 10 medium size pumpkins let me know. 😉
Happy November!! 🍁
